YOU SAY IT FIRST by SUSAN MALLERY|BLOG TOUR

Title: You Say It First

Author: Susan Mallery

Pages: 416 pages (Paperback)

Genre: Romance

Publisher: Mills & Boon

Sculptor Nick Mitchell grew up in a family of artists and learned from his volatile father that passion only leads to pain. As he waits on a new commission, he takes a day job as a humble carpenter at a theme wedding venue. The job has its perks—mainly the venue’s captivating owner, Pallas Saunders. Although he won’t let love consume him, for ecstasy with an expiration date, he’s all in.

Pallas adores Weddings in a Box. But if she can’t turn the floundering business around, she’ll have no choice but cave to her domineering mother and trade taffeta for trust funds working at the family’s bank. Then when a desperate bride begs Pallas for something completely out of the box, her irresistible new hire inspires her. Nick knows she doesn’t belong behind a desk, and she knows in her heart that he’s right—where she really belongs is in his arms.

‘You Say It First’ by Susan Mallery is a feel-good small town romance and a spin-off of Fool’s Gold. But can as well be read alone.

Nick is a sculpture, and a very handsome one at that. He takes a carpenting job at Pallas’s Weddings in a Box at a mere subsistence wage while awaiting an offer in Dubai. He is not only a treat to the eyes but is also very considerate and supportive of Pallas from the very start.

Pallas inherited Wedding in a Box while in college. But is still struggling to gain the respect and love from her mother, Libby. She seems to be dissapointed in her and wants her to join the family bank.

Both have there issues with love. Pallas thinks it is something to be earned. While Nick thinks it consumes all. Pallas’ issues arise from her cold mother who never gave love freely to her(that she later confronts) while Nick’s arise from his distant and unfaithful father who never cared about anything apart from his art.

It is a very heartwarming story that incorporates captivating emotional conflict with a swoon worthy romance. But You Say It First is not just that. It is also equal parts about family and friendship as it is about the romance. Susan Mallery also did a very vivid setup with so many weddings and wedding preparations going on. Also, the character development of Pallas throughout the story was commendable.

The novel starts with Maggie getting tangled in a lawsuit and her having a miscarriage. Upon that, the man in her life, Andrew, turns out to be an absolutely unsupportive ass. Completely devastated, Maggie decides to take break and visit her Dad in Colorado. Where she finally comes across Cal Jones! Our Main Guy!!

Cal has a baggage of his own and so does Maggie. Their relationship takes a sweet time to build and that makes it more real. Their romance is adorable and mature. It’s the one you root for with all your might. The writing-the storytelling, is all beautiful and you can literally picture the landscape. The characters are fleshed out so well that you can even bet you’ve already known Maggie for years!

What We Find is a character driven book according to me. It’s the emotions and a very honest portrayal of it, that drives the plot. I absolutely devoured this book. Specially the sharp conscience with which Carr’s narrative. What We Find is a book that will make sure it has all your attention.

This book is about new beginnings. And provided me with a sense of comfort and hope. I’ll definitely recommend What We Find by Robyn Carr to everyone.

My Rating: 5/5

MINI REVIEWS OF 2 KASIE WEST NOVELS|2 IN 1 BOOK REVIEW

Kasie West is an author I got introduced to in 2018. So far I’ve read 2 novel of hers and 1 short story. Here are the mini reviews of the 2 novels I’ve read of hers.

1. By Your Side: It was just a fine read for me. Though the characters were gorgeous and charming, the plot was unnecessarily complicated. I did not like how West tried to tackle the love triangle. What she tried, required a thorough exploration of emotions and that was not done. It was a fluffy YA and should have been kept at just that! I don’t like things done half way. Like if you want to do a chick lit, ace that. Don’t try to throw in some complications just for the sake of some brownie critic points! Specially if you can’t do justice to that!

Though brooding and mysterious Dax, gets it a 3.5☆ from me.

2. Fill-in Boyfriend, is a slow burn feel-good romance with the ‘fake dating trope’. It instantly became one of my favourite YA contemporary romances. Light, simple and fluffy, this book is a perfect weekend read. Hayden and Hannah will make you swoon!

It’s a 5☆ from me.

Doubler is the second largest potato grower in the country. He understands potatoes in a way that potatoes have rarely been understood. He lives in Mirth Farm and never leaves his house and manages to get everything delivered to him. His only companions are his potatoes and his housekeeper Mrs Millwood. This book is about this man. Mr Doubler. It’s his coming of age novel. It’s about his second chance at life.

“…he had not taken a slow slide into solitude. He had decided in fact, the moment his children left home, that he would never leave Mirth Farm again. If you never left, he had persuaded himself, there was no chance that you wouldn’t return”

When Mrs Millwood falls ill, Doubler is forced to go out, maybe make some friends and his life is turned upside down.

Written in a sharp conscience, this book is deep, witty and humorous. The characters are candidly loving and so well crafted. The narrative is heartwarming and the story truly utterly BEAUTIFUL. It’s exactly the kind of book I’m always in search of but rarely find. It’s the kind that’s soothes your soul.

Lastly, Mr. Doubler Begins Again is filled with hope, compassion and friendship. And also, potatoes! Ofcouse, potatoes!

My Rating: 5/5

WAKE UP, GIRL! by NIHARIKA JINDAL | BOOK REVIEW

Title: Wake Up, Girl!

Author: Niharika Jindal

Pages: 248 pages (Paperback)

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Coming-of-Age

Publication Date: November 10, 2018

Publisher: Bloomsbury India

Naina is back from America, after four years of living on her own. A natural rebel, she has had some fairly life-altering experiences which Mum and Dad would not approve of at all if they get to know. But will her spirit and her stand be enough to fight the forces of parental pressure and heckling aunties baying for her nuptials?
Back in the bosom of her conservative family, Naina cannot even begin to imagine the turn her life is going to take. It’s wedding season, and she must now be married. Because every self-respecting upper-middle-class family in India do that, right? Marriage at the ‘right age’ to the ‘right family’…whether she likes it or not.
Naina’s worst nightmares are about to come true. What hits her within a week of being at home completely changes her world and her life as she embarks on a journey that will define her and provide her an education that only life can.
Ayaan, Rohan, Akshay, Shiven. Who will it be? Will she even have a shot at romance, being with someone she loves, irrespective of his caste, respectability or bank balance? She will have to summon all the chutzpah within to fight for herself. For her notions of love and living.
Will she succeed? Like a chrysalis unfolding, will Naina, too, emerge with her wings unscathed?

Visit “Wake Up, Girl” on Goodreads…

As soon as Naina returns home from Boston after completing her post graduation, she is faced with the parental pressure of getting married. And if you come from a conservative society and have had heard people comment on “THE RIGHT AGE TO GET MARRIED” you’ll know how it completely messes up with your head. How it triggers self doubts and how it strips off your confidence. This book Wake Up, Girl is the about one such girl.

It’s the coming of age story of Naina. It’s about how she transforms from a timid clueless girl to a head strong confidant woman. It’s about Naina challenging the social stereotypes and taking charge of her own life, carving a path for herself!

Wake Up, Girl by Niharika Jindal is light, fluffy and a quick read! The book is relatable on so many levels but it’s the subtle humours and quick comments that hits the spot!

I infact find rom-coms by Indian authors quite enjoyable and this book was exactly IT with some solid Bollywood drama!!😍 Simple story-telling and extensive character development added to my enjoyment. Also, how lit is that cover?!!🔥

My Rating: 4.5/5
