YOU SAY IT FIRST by SUSAN MALLERY|BLOG TOUR

Title: You Say It First

Author: Susan Mallery

Pages: 416 pages (Paperback)

Genre: Romance

Publisher: Mills & Boon

Sculptor Nick Mitchell grew up in a family of artists and learned from his volatile father that passion only leads to pain. As he waits on a new commission, he takes a day job as a humble carpenter at a theme wedding venue. The job has its perks—mainly the venue’s captivating owner, Pallas Saunders. Although he won’t let love consume him, for ecstasy with an expiration date, he’s all in.

Pallas adores Weddings in a Box. But if she can’t turn the floundering business around, she’ll have no choice but cave to her domineering mother and trade taffeta for trust funds working at the family’s bank. Then when a desperate bride begs Pallas for something completely out of the box, her irresistible new hire inspires her. Nick knows she doesn’t belong behind a desk, and she knows in her heart that he’s right—where she really belongs is in his arms.

‘You Say It First’ by Susan Mallery is a feel-good small town romance and a spin-off of Fool’s Gold. But can as well be read alone.

Nick is a sculpture, and a very handsome one at that. He takes a carpenting job at Pallas’s Weddings in a Box at a mere subsistence wage while awaiting an offer in Dubai. He is not only a treat to the eyes but is also very considerate and supportive of Pallas from the very start.

Pallas inherited Wedding in a Box while in college. But is still struggling to gain the respect and love from her mother, Libby. She seems to be dissapointed in her and wants her to join the family bank.

Both have there issues with love. Pallas thinks it is something to be earned. While Nick thinks it consumes all. Pallas’ issues arise from her cold mother who never gave love freely to her(that she later confronts) while Nick’s arise from his distant and unfaithful father who never cared about anything apart from his art.

It is a very heartwarming story that incorporates captivating emotional conflict with a swoon worthy romance. But You Say It First is not just that. It is also equal parts about family and friendship as it is about the romance. Susan Mallery also did a very vivid setup with so many weddings and wedding preparations going on. Also, the character development of Pallas throughout the story was commendable.

The novel starts with Maggie getting tangled in a lawsuit and her having a miscarriage. Upon that, the man in her life, Andrew, turns out to be an absolutely unsupportive ass. Completely devastated, Maggie decides to take break and visit her Dad in Colorado. Where she finally comes across Cal Jones! Our Main Guy!!

Cal has a baggage of his own and so does Maggie. Their relationship takes a sweet time to build and that makes it more real. Their romance is adorable and mature. It’s the one you root for with all your might. The writing-the storytelling, is all beautiful and you can literally picture the landscape. The characters are fleshed out so well that you can even bet you’ve already known Maggie for years!

What We Find is a character driven book according to me. It’s the emotions and a very honest portrayal of it, that drives the plot. I absolutely devoured this book. Specially the sharp conscience with which Carr’s narrative. What We Find is a book that will make sure it has all your attention.

This book is about new beginnings. And provided me with a sense of comfort and hope. I’ll definitely recommend What We Find by Robyn Carr to everyone.

My Rating: 5/5

MINI REVIEWS OF 2 KASIE WEST NOVELS|2 IN 1 BOOK REVIEW

Kasie West is an author I got introduced to in 2018. So far I’ve read 2 novel of hers and 1 short story. Here are the mini reviews of the 2 novels I’ve read of hers.

1. By Your Side: It was just a fine read for me. Though the characters were gorgeous and charming, the plot was unnecessarily complicated. I did not like how West tried to tackle the love triangle. What she tried, required a thorough exploration of emotions and that was not done. It was a fluffy YA and should have been kept at just that! I don’t like things done half way. Like if you want to do a chick lit, ace that. Don’t try to throw in some complications just for the sake of some brownie critic points! Specially if you can’t do justice to that!

Though brooding and mysterious Dax, gets it a 3.5☆ from me.

2. Fill-in Boyfriend, is a slow burn feel-good romance with the ‘fake dating trope’. It instantly became one of my favourite YA contemporary romances. Light, simple and fluffy, this book is a perfect weekend read. Hayden and Hannah will make you swoon!

It’s a 5☆ from me.

Visit “The Magic of Christmas” on Goodreads…

The Magic of Christmas by Nora Roberts features two separate contemporary romances. The Playboy Prince and Charmed!

The Playboy Prince is a Cinderella story with a thrill to it. It revolves around Prince Bennett, Lady Hannah Rotschild and a few spies to add to the adventure! While Charmed is a paranoramal-fantasy-romance, with princesses, witches, wizards and frogs!

Both the stories were really swoon worthy and mushy and heart warming. It’s my second Nora Roberts and I liked it so much more than my first! It was a quick read and had some steamy make out scenes! Though The Magic of Christmas lacked Christmas, Nora Roberts made it up with plenty of magic in it!

The pacing was perfect and the writing brilliant! The only thing that bothered and hindered my enjoyment was the boundaries and consent The Playboy Prince failed to maintain. Now, this is my first Mills & Boon and I’m not sure if that’s standard in this genre.(though I don’t know why would that be!)

My Rating: 4/5

A Swoony Mysogynist Romance Tutoring Rape Culture|Review of Good Luck Charm by Helena Hunting

PicsArt_11-02-08.14.42

Good Luck Charm by Helena Hunting, features a hot steamy second chance romance with an eye candy of a book boyfriend.

I finished reading this a few days back and have been confused since, on how I felt about the novel and how I wanted to rate and review it. I did not like the two main characters and the narrative have been problematic a couple of times. But they were so major that I could not get over or overlook them. The more I think about it, the more angry I get.

FEMALE LEAD: LILAH

Lilah was really nagging in the second half of the story. The major complication put in the plot was that she could not get enough sleep Continue reading “A Swoony Mysogynist Romance Tutoring Rape Culture|Review of Good Luck Charm by Helena Hunting”
