So Absurd It Must Be True by Victoria Ray is a collection of 42 short stories. Each totally unique and different from each other and also from anything else you have ever read. The chapters are short and each chapter comes with a lesson at the end of it.

The stories are short and quirky. They are a satire on society, relationships, lifestyle, sex and much more. You just slide through the wild ride. The character names are genius. And as a whole they are really absurd and f-ing hilarious!!! But at the same time dark and raw.

I can only imagine that the creative instinct and imagination of Ray must have been at it’s peak while writing this book.

It’s a must read if you are looking for a good laugh. Pick it up on a lazy afternoon or on the beach or on a weekend to fill yourself with wonder.

Simon and Daisy seem to have a great life. They seem to be a very happy family with their daughter Millie, who was conceived after several failed IVF attempts. But behind this happy facade both are hiding sinister lies from EACH other unravelling of which sets the book in motion.

If you have been following my blog for sometime you would know how psychological domestic thrillers are my kryptonite. And GOSH this was GOOOOOD. It had all the elements that needs to be present is the genre. It was fast paced, has unlikeable characters, keeps you guessing till the end(which was worth it), the vibe set is unnerving(which is intensified by Millie’s presence amongst it all) and the plot twists are smooth but surprising!! It totally strikes the right chord.

Lies Lies Lies includes issues of infertility and it’s subsequent effect on mental health, alcohol addiction, domestic & sexual violence and the less talked about post partum depression. This novel is addictive to say the least and hooks you from the very first page. I will give this a 4.5 out of 5 and will definitely recommend it.

Dulcinea and The Death Code by Victoria Ray|Book Review

Title: Dulcinea and The Death Code

Author: Victoria Ray

Pages: 197 pages (Ebook)

If somebody had told you that you were born under mysterious circumstances, that you appeared on Earth as a baby and nobody knew how you were born – grown by aliens, popped into existence by an invisible gravity force, or assembled in some kind of DNA-factory – wouldn’t you find it absolutely frightening? Knowing that you aren’t you, losing your identity and mind, feeling that it isn’t normal for you to be here, because you are part of something else, but still the part of the Universe. I am asking you: WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

A mysterious world.
A girl that had never been born.
A strange crack in the backyard that follows you wherever you go.
Death and disappointment.
The journey through the curved space.

It all waits to be discovered in Dulcinea and The Death Code – an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and reality in a thrilling reading experience. Fourteen-year-old Dulcinea is moving from sunny Sumter, South Carolina to frigid Sweden. She is followed by the glowing crack and the strange gravitational sound that has been there her whole life. What it is and why it follows her is a complete mystery. Through her journey, Dulcinea discovers her abilities, while coming to grips with the fact that she is far from human. This knowledge is very dangerous – not only for Dulcinea, but for everyone she meets during this electrifying trip to the place called A-Ria. Dulcinea and her incredible new friends learn that the secret they discover might help those they love… and the Earth itself.

A spine-tingling young adult fantasy book Dulcinea and The Death Code will be an exhilarating read for teens, adults and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows of the Unknown Universe.

Dulcinea and The Death Code by Victoria Ray is a young adult fantasy and a very unique one at that. It is about a girl Dulcinia who can fore see people’s death for reasons unknown to her. But as she arrives in Sweden and finds herself among a group of teenagers just like her, all bestowed with some unique power, she sets out to explore herself and in the process, much more .

The book is interesting and offbeat. It is written in lucid language and thus is easy to read and follow. The world building is gradual and effortless to get into. Descriptions are vivid but not over done or boring.

But the plot had a lot more potential than what has been done with it. Plus a lot of questions and situations were left unanswered at the end. But as it happens to be a part of the series probably those will be answered in the next one.

Also I love the cover and the title of the novel. Both are so attractive.

Rebecca’s on-again, off-again boyfriend, Ezra, has gone missing, but when she notifies the police, they seem surprisingly unconcerned. They suspect he has been playing the “stranger game,” a viral hit in which players start following others in real life, as they might otherwise do on social media. As the game spreads, however, the rules begin to change, play grows more intense and disappearances are reported across the country.

Curious about this popular new obsession, and hoping that she might be able to track down Ezra, Rebecca tries the game for herself. She also meets Carey, who is willing to take the game further than she imagined possible. As her relationship with Carey and involvement in the game deepen, she begins to uncover an unsettling subculture that has infiltrated the world around her. In playing the stranger game, what may lead her closer to finding Ezra may take her further and further from the life she once lived.

When Ezra, Rebecca’s long term boyfriend goes missing she comes across the game that is sweeping the city. It requires you to follow a complete stranger without getting caught. Not on social media but in reality. In person.

The rules of the game are simple.

You pick a random stranger to follow.

You don’t get involved.

And you never follow the same stranger twice.

But as Rebecca penetrates into the innocent world of the Stranger Game, it proves to me more sinister than it previously seemed.

Rebecca in her isolation and unsteady reality is a character that grows on you.
The plot grabs your attention and the eerie setting keeps a you hooked throughout. The plot development was slow which can be attributed the specific writing style. But the climax could have been better.

The Stranger Game by Peter Gadol is an offbeat psychological thriller(/suspense). This book really would be appreciated by the fans of The Woman In The Window.

‘Don’t Tell Teacher’ by Suzy K Quinn is a dynamic psychological thriller. With short crisp chapters it kept me hooked throughout.

The story is simultaneously narrated in two alternating timelines. After joining which Tom comes home with peculiar marks on his body and starts getting seizures. And another timeline is the previous one where Lizzie falling in love with Olly. I’m currently on a thriller reading spree and ‘Out of the Ashes‘ by Vicky Newham is the hot new, impressive and completely immersive thriller in town that worked it’s pull on me. It’s a page turner that leaves you breathless.

It keeps you guessing on the suspects and the motives! The twists and turns are effortless and does not seem forced. The characters are multi cultural and multi layered. Even being a fast paced plot driven book, the character arcs specially that of our protagonist DI Maya is fascinating. Cultural exploration of not only the characters but of London and East End itself adds an unique taste to the story.

The writing and details are original. I’m definitely looking forward to read more of Vicky Newham’s novel from now.
