AN INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR DEBRA R BOHANNON| AUTHOR INTERVIEW

Today I’ll be hosting author Debra R Bohannonon my blog. She is the author of the Unbreakable series.

Me: How are you dealing with this pandemic?

Debra: It has been tough. Especially with my two young sons. They don’t understand why they can’t go anywhere. I take it one day at a time and try to make the best of it. It is difficult to stay positive all of the time but I try to keep my mind busy with writing.

Me: Has it affected any of your plans related to the launch of book 2, Fighting Secrets?

Debra: Yes. I had planned on having a book signing but that has been put on hold until next year.

Me: I read on your website that an old building in your hometown and a tale of a gypsy surrounding it inspired you to write The Unbreakable series. Can you tell our readers more about that?

Debra: Sure! I’ve always been in love with the Archer House. I wanted to bring out some history in my books and what better way to do it than having my main character stay in one of the oldest buildings in my hometown. Abraham Lincoln stayed at the Archer House when he visited my hometown in the 1800’s. It has been undergoing renovations for a few years now,and I’m looking forward to getting the chance to visit it when the remodeling have been completed.

It’s true. It was commonplace to see gypsies traveling through my hometown. There are many stories I’ve heard throughout the years but the one I remember the most is about a gypsy named, Miranda Cooper. While most feared or disliked the gypsies, members of my town embraced and welcomed them. Our kindness was returned and Miranda placed us under a protective spell. She said no tornadoes would ever wipe out our town because of the town’s kindness shown to her and her troupe. To this day, we watch severe storms on the radar head for our town but watch them split in two upon reaching the city. Sure, we get bad storms but no tornadoes have harmed us.

Me: Are we going to get a fair share of gypsy and witches to please our soul-sin The Heart’s Desire?(Do you mean the Unbreakable Series?)

Debra: I believe you will! The last two books in the series, Praised by Magic and Facing the Darkness, are both full of witches, shifters, and other surprises. In the first two books, Hearts Desire and Fighting Secrets, Kris is still trying to find herself and to understand who she is. It isn’t until the end of Fighting Secrets that she learns about her family secret.

UNBREAKABLE BOOK 1

Me: What genres interest you as a reader?

Debra: I enjoy anything edgy with a bit of romance. So, I sway towards fantasy, sci-fi, and romance.

Me: Will you describe this as a feel good series or as dark and gritty?

Debra: It is a bit of both. There is romance throughout but it has a dark element to it with shapeshifters and witches.

Me: Can Fighting Secrets be read as a standalone?

Debra: Yes. I believe it could be read as a standalone but the relationships between the characters may be a little lost without reading the first book, Hearts Desire. To fully understand where Kris is coming from and how much things change for her between the two books, I’d recommend reading them both.

Me: What is the hardest part as an author or in the process of publishing a book?

Debra: The hardest part for me is editing! I’m not the best at it and I often send my books out to Beta readers to help me find errors or areas where I need to elaborate. Writing the book is the easy part, and since I know what the book is supposed to say,my brain will just skip over the places that are missing information. Thank goodness for my friends and Betas who take the time to help me with that part.

UNBREAKABLE BOOK 2

Me: Kris is the protagonist of the series. Tell us something about her.

Debra: Kris at the beginning of the series is a little bit unsure of herself. She pretends she has herself together but in reality, she is broken. As the series moves forward she learns who she is, about her strengths, and her fate.

Me: What are you doing when you are not writing?

Debra: I’m a stay at home to two boys. A 2yr old and 5yr old. They keep me busy for sure! When they are content, I read, watch movies, listen to music, binge watch a favorite TV show. Right now, my favorite show is Motherland: Fort Salem. If I’m not doing any of that then I’m hanging out with my husband of 7 yrs. We enjoy going on Jeep rides and UTV rides with friends and our boys.

Me: Which color describes you the best?

Debra: Blue. I’m usually a pretty calm person.

Me: When is the next book of the series scheduled to release?

Debra: I don’t have a date set for the release of Praised by Magic. It will hopefully be out before the end of the year. It is written but is in the editing stages now. I am currently writing Facing the Darkness.

Me: Are you working on any other projects outside The Unbreakable Series?

Debra: I am working on a few other stories, but at this point, they are only ideas. I haven’t written much on them.

  1. I have read Hearts Desire and really enjoyed it! It had some unexpected twists which made it fun to read, because it kept you guessing as to how the story would unfold! I’m looking forward to snagging the next in the series, finding a good rainy day and reading the book from cover to cover. This young lady has quite a talent!
